Anniston completed the 2021 season with a 5-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region four, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Walter Wellborn on Friday, August 19 at The Hill. Last year the Walter Wellborn Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region five. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 34-0. Anniston and Walter Wellborn have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 20-16-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Anniston winning by a score of 38-7. Anniston returns 4A All-State sophomore linebacker Grayshaun Swain. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Bulldogs also return Junior athlete Jayden Lewis. He was named to the second team.
