 2022 Preview 


       Andalusia completed the 2021 season with a 9-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region two, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Andalusia made a nice playoff run in 2021, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Pike Road team by the score of 33-0.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Andalusia has gone a combined 108-40. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Andalusia has managed to compile a record of 174-116. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A and 91st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Trent Taylor who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 70-24 over the past seven seasons at Andalusia. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Taylor.

       Coach Taylor's overall record as a head football coach in thirty-four season stands at 253-145 (63.6%). His 253 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Taylor's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-nine times and won seven region championships. He has a 34-29 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

       The Andalusia Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region two during the 2022 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region two this year. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-44 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 4A and 22nd in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Bulldogs are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2014 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Bulldogs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Opp on Thursday, August 18 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Opp Bobcats finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 3A region two. The Bobcats lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to T.R. Miller by a score of 35-14.

       Andalusia and Opp have met a total of 93 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 53-36-4 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2019 with Andalusia winning by a score of 48-21.

       Andalusia returns 5A All-State Senior offensive lineman Brody Stewart. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Junior running back Jamarion Burnett. He was named to the first team.
