2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Opp completed the 2021 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region two, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Opp reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to T.R. Miller by a score of 35-14. The defense was very stingy last season as Opp ranked 29th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.0 points a game. Since 2010, Opp has gone a combined 72-61. Their 54.1% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Opp has managed to compile a record of 141-135. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A and 178th in the AHSAA. The Bobcats are led by head coach Mike Dubose who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 9-3 record in his first season at Opp. The Bobcats saw improvement from a 8-4 record the season before coach Dubose arrived. Under his direction the Bobcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dubose. Coach Dubose's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 48-35 (57.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Dubose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won three region championships. The Opp Bobcats will play in Class 3A region two during the 2022 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. Opp enters the 2022 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Channell Lee Field. The Bobcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bobcats open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Andalusia on Thursday, August 18 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Andalusia Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 9-5 and in third place in Class 5A region two. The Bulldogs lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Pike Road by a score of 33-0. Opp and Andalusia have met a total of 93 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 36-53-4 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2019 with Andalusia winning by a score of 48-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
