2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ashford finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Ashford finished eighth in Class 4A region two with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 1969. The Yellow Jackets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Ashford was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.4 points a game. Ashford struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.8 points a game. The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Ashford has gone a combined 47-76. Their 38.2% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Ashford has managed to compile a record of 117-142. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A and 242nd in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Robin Tyra who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 2-18 over the past two seasons at Ashford. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Tyra. Coach Tyra's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 60-89 (40.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tyra's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won one region championship. The Ashford Yellow Jackets will play in Class 3A region two during the 2022 season. The Yellow Jackets may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region two this year. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Yellow Jackets enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 10 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Yellow Jackets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Ashford will be to simply win some games. The Yellow Jackets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Rehobeth on Friday, August 19 at W.H. Brown Field. Last year the Rehobeth Rebels finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 5A region two. Ashford and Rehobeth have met a total of 77 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 43-32-2 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2021 with Rehobeth winning by a score of 16-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
