 2022 Preview 


       Geneva completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region two, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Geneva's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Handley by a score of 42-6.

       Since 2010, Geneva has gone a combined 54-69. Their 43.9% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva has managed to compile a record of 161-108. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A and 90th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Les Sanders who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 36-36 over the past seven seasons at Geneva. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sanders.

       Coach Sanders' overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 76-56 (57.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sanders' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship.

       The Geneva Panthers will play in Class 4A region two during the 2022 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Unfortunately, Geneva finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason.

       The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Headland on Friday, August 19 at Hugh Owen Stadium. Last year the Headland Rams finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 5A region two.

       Geneva and Headland have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 21-10-0 record against the Rams. They last met in 2009 with Headland winning by a score of 22-20.
