2022 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jacksonville completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region four, the Golden Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Jacksonville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to American Christian by a score of 49-35. Since 2010, Jacksonville has gone a combined 85-51. Their 62.5% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jacksonville has managed to compile a record of 142-124. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 4A and 160th in the AHSAA. The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Clint Smith who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 81-35 over the past ten seasons at Jacksonville. Under his direction the Golden Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Smith. Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 138-82 (62.7%). His 138 wins rank 33rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won three region championships. Coach Smith won a state championship at Trinity Oxford in 2000. The Jacksonville Golden Eagles will play in Class 4A region four during the 2022 season. The Golden Eagles should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Golden Eagles have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2012 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Golden Eagles open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Boaz on Friday, August 19 at Golden Eagle Stadium. Last year the Boaz Pirates finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 5A region seven. The Pirates lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Parker by a score of 31-21. Jacksonville and Boaz have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Golden Eagles have a 2-2-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2007 with Boaz winning by a score of 20-10. Jacksonville returns 4A All-State Junior quarterback Jim Ogle. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
