2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Asbury finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Asbury finished sixth in Class 3A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Asbury ever won more games in a season than the two victories last year. The 147 points scored by the Rams last year were a team record in a single season. The Rams have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Asbury was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game. Asbury struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 43.0 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Asbury is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only six seasons. They have managed a record of 5-55 over the past six years. The Rams are led by head coach Chris Williams who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-26 over the past three seasons at Asbury. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams. Coach Williams' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 4-26 (13.3%). The Rams have never won more than two games in a single season. Could this be the year they break through for a good season? The Asbury Rams will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Rams if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just 2 wins last year, Asbury will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Rams open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Gaston on Friday, August 19 at Captain Bill Boyd Field. Last year the Gaston Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 2A region six. Asbury and Gaston have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Rams have a 1-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2021 with Asbury winning by a score of 33-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
