2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carbon Hill completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Carbon Hill finished sixth in Class 3A region six with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, the Carbon Hill football program has struggled with a record of 28-93. Over the past 25 seasons, Carbon Hill has not won much with a record of 73-181. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 3A and 357th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Mark Cochran who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Carbon Hill. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Cochran. Coach Cochran's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-17 (45.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Cochran's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Carbon Hill Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-43 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 3A and 23rd in the AHSAA. Region five will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. The Bulldogs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Decatur Heritage Christian on Friday, August 26 at Rebels Stadium, West Morgan. Last year the Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 1A region eight. The Eagles lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 60-46. Carbon Hill and Decatur Heritage Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 0-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in with Carbon Hill returns 3A All-State Senior running back Devon Daniel. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
