2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
East Lawrence finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year East Lawrence just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region eight with a 2-4 region record. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. The Eagles hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 9-2 record in 2020. Since 2010, the East Lawrence football program has struggled with a record of 34-87. Over the past 25 seasons, East Lawrence has not won much with a record of 66-187. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 4A and 365th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. The Eagles are led by head coach Sean Holt who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at East Lawrence. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holt. Coach Holt's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 25-48 (34.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Holt's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The East Lawrence Eagles will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2022 season. The Eagles move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. The Eagles open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Winston County on Friday, August 26 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Winston County Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. The Yellow Jackets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Falkville by a score of 64-22 after failing to gain a playoff spot. East Lawrence and Winston County have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Yellow Jackets.
