2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hatton completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Hatton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spring Garden by a score of 55-20. The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Hatton has gone a combined 51-72. Their 41.5% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hatton has managed to compile a record of 114-145. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A and 252nd in the AHSAA. The Hornets are led by head coach Denton Bowling who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-35 over the past six seasons at Hatton. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bowling. Coach Bowling's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 27-35 (43.5%). The Hatton Hornets will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2022 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Hornets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. The Hornets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Wilson on Friday, August 19 at Hatton Field. Last year the Wilson Warriors finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 4A region eight. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a loss to Colbert Heights by a score of 14-6. Hatton and Wilson have met a total of 15 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 12-3-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2015 with Wilson winning by a score of 35-7. Hatton returns 2A All-State Senior offensive lineman Braden Stafford. He was named to the second team last season. The Hornets also return Senior punter Briley Kerby. He was named to the second team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
