 2022 Preview 


       Tanner completed the 2021 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region seven, the Rattlers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Tanner reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Mars Hill by a score of 47-20.

       Since 2010, Tanner has gone a combined 101-46. Their 68.7% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Tanner has managed to compile a record of 192-103. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 2A and 66th in the AHSAA.




       The Rattlers are led by head coach Oscar Bonds who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-27 over the past four seasons at Tanner. Under his direction the Rattlers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bonds.

       Coach Bonds' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 16-27 (37.2%).

       The Tanner Rattlers will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Rattlers remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region eight.

       Tanner enters the 2022 season with a string of 7 consecutive wins on their home field at Rip Swanner Stadium.

       The Rattlers should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Rattlers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Lauderdale County on Thursday, August 18 at Rip Swanner Stadium. Last year the Lauderdale County Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 3A region eight. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 31-0.

       Tanner and Lauderdale County have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Rattlers have a 6-20-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1993 with Lauderdale County winning by a score of 20-13.

       Tanner returns 2A All-State Junior receiver Skyler Townsend. He was named to the second team last season.
