2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Columbia finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Columbia finished eighth in Class 6A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Columbia averaged scoring just 3.0 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-20 record. Since 2010, the Columbia football program has struggled with a record of 16-104. Over the past 16 seasons, Columbia has not won much with a record of 31-129. Their 19.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 6A and 388th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2010. The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach Josh LouAllen as they enter the 2022 season. Coach LouAllen was an assistant coach at Austin in 2021. Coach LouAllen's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 15-25 (37.5%). The Wildcats will start the season with their sixth new head football coach in the last nine years. The Columbia Eagles will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 6A but move from region eight over to region seven. The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-38 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 6A and 18th in the AHSAA. The Eagles enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 62 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Columbia will be to simply win some games. The Eagles open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Fairview on Thursday, August 18 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Fairview Aggies finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in second place in Class 5A region seven. The Aggies lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Pleasant Grove by a score of 47-17. Columbia and Fairview have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 0-4-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2009 with Fairview winning by a score of 43-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
