Last year James Clemens captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. James Clemens's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Oak Mountain by a score of 38-35. No team at James Clemens ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2015. James Clemens is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only ten seasons. They have managed a record of 64-46 over the past ten years. Over the past 10 seasons, James Clemens has managed to compile a record of 64-46. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 7A and 110th in the AHSAA. The Jets are led by head coach Chad McGehee who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-1 record in his first season at James Clemens. The Jets saw improvement from a 8-3 record the season before coach McGehee arrived. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach McGehee. Coach McGehee's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 19-12 (61.3%). The Jets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Gardendale on Friday, August 19 at Madison City Schools Stadium. Last year the Gardendale Rockets finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in fourth place in Class 6A region six. The Rockets lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 50-44. James Clemens and Gardendale have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jets have a 2-2-0 record against the Rockets. They last met in 2017 with James Clemens winning by a score of 26-14. James Clemens returns 7A All-State athlete Giovanni Lopez. He was named to the first team last season. The Jets also return defensive back Jamal Mayers. He was named to the second team. The Jets also return receiver Keymari Pittman.
