 2022 Preview 


       McGill-Toolen completed the 2021 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region one, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. McGill-Toolen reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hueytown by a score of 49-17.

       The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 2014.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, McGill-Toolen has gone a combined 118-30. Their 79.7% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, McGill-Toolen has gone a combined 210-89. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 6A and 35th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Norman Joseph who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-5 record in his first season at McGill-Toolen. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Joseph.

       Coach Joseph's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 7-5 (58.3%).

       The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets will play in Class 6A region one during the 2022 season. The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 73-41 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 6A and 12th in the AHSAA. McGill-Toolen will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, McGill-Toolen has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Yellow Jackets should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2014 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

      

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Catholic Montgomery on Friday, August 19 at Lipscomb Park. Last year the Catholic Montgomery Knights finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 3A region four. The Knights lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Montgomery Academy by a score of 10-7.

       McGill-Toolen and Catholic Montgomery have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 0-2-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 1924 with
