 2022 Preview 


       Section completed the 2021 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Section just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

       The Lions improved in 2021 with their first winning season since 2014. The Lions won as many games as in any season since 2013.

       Since 2010, Section has gone a combined 45-76. Their 37.2% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Section has managed to compile a record of 112-147. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 2A and 255th in the AHSAA.




       The Lions are led by head coach Chris Hammon who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-17 over the past three seasons at Section. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hammon.

       Coach Hammon's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-17 (45.2%).

       The Section Lions will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2022 season.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Unfortunately, Section finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. Section came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Lions open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Decatur Heritage Christian on Friday, August 19 at Section Stadium. Last year the Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 1A region eight. The Eagles lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 60-46.

       Section and Decatur Heritage Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in with
