2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Spring Garden completed the 2021 season with a 12-1 record. The Panthers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Spring Garden captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Spring Garden lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Mars Hill team by a score of 42-19. No team at Spring Garden ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. Over the past two seasons the Panthers have gone 24-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Spring Garden has gone a combined 95-46. Their 67.4% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 1A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Spring Garden has managed to compile a record of 139-136. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 1A and 195th in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Jason Howard who is entering his eighteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 119-76 over the past seventeen seasons at Spring Garden. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Howard. Coach Howard's overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 124-91 (57.7%). His 124 wins rank 46th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Howard's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won four region championships. The Spring Garden Panthers will play in Class 1A region six during the 2022 season. The Panthers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region six this year. The Panthers enter the 2022 season riding a 15 game regular season winning streak. Spring Garden has won 7 consecutive region games. They have won 15 straight games on their home turf at Panther Stadium. The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Sand Rock on Thursday, August 18 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Sand Rock Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 2A region six. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Mars Hill by a score of 48-13. Spring Garden and Sand Rock have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 12-24-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2021 with Spring Garden winning by a score of 29-28. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
