 2022 Preview 


       St. James completed the 2021 season with a 10-2 record. Last year St. James captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. St. James reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Jackson by a score of 45-33.

       The 473 points scored by the Trojans last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, St. James has gone a combined 91-44. Their 67.4% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, St. James has managed to compile a record of 172-107. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 3A and 75th in the AHSAA.




       The Trojans are led by head coach Jimmy Perry who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 79-35 over the past ten seasons at St. James. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Perry.

       Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 144-67 (68.2%). His 144 wins rank 29th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won nine region championships.

       Coach Perry needs six wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

       The St. James Trojans will play in Class 3A region three during the 2022 season. The Trojans may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region three this year.

       The Trojans enter the 2022 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak. St. James has won 11 consecutive region games.

       The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2013 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Trojans open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Montgomery Academy on Friday, August 19 at McLemore Field. Last year the Montgomery Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 11-4 and in first place in Class 3A region three. The Eagles lost in the Class 3A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Piedmont. They final score was 35-33 in the Super Seven finals in Birmingham.

       St. James and Montgomery Academy have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 21-29-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Montgomery Academy winning by a score of 38-36.

       St. James returns 4A All-State Senior running back Cosner Harrison. He was named to the second team last season.
