Brewer finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Brewer finished sixth in Class 5A region eight with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Patriots have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. Brewer was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Patriots want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.1 points a game. Brewer struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.1 points a game. The Patriots would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Brewer football program has struggled with a record of 28-92. Over the past 25 seasons, Brewer has not won much with a record of 60-193. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 5A and 374th in the AHSAA. The Patriots have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. The Patriots are led by head coach Matt Plunkett who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Brewer. The Patriots saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Plunkett arrived. The Patriots have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Plunkett. Coach Plunkett's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 53-47 (53.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Plunkett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times . The Brewer Patriots will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2022 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Patriots if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, Brewer will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Patriots open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Hanceville on Friday, August 19 at James Tucker Stadium. Last year the Hanceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 4A region six. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Elkmont by a score of 24-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Brewer and Hanceville have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 4-14-0 record against the Bulldogs.
