 2022 Preview 


       Chelsea completed the 2021 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region five, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Chelsea's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Oxford by a score of 30-20.

       Since 2010, Chelsea has gone a combined 61-65. Their 48.4% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Chelsea has managed to compile a record of 130-138. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 7A and 206th in the AHSAA.




       The Hornets will be under the direction of new head football coach Todd Cassity as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Cassity was the head at J.B. Pennington last season.

       Coach Cassity's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 60-45 (57.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Cassity's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times .

       Sophomore QB Carter Dotson will lead the Hornets this year as they work to get back to a winning attitude in Chelsea.

       The Chelsea Hornets will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season. The Hornets move up in classification to Class 7A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Hornets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season.

       The Hornets open the 2022 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Helena on Thursday, August 18 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Helena Huskies finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 6A region three. The Huskies lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Baldwin County by a score of 32-29.

       Chelsea and Helena have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 5-6-0 record against the Huskies. They last met in 2021 with Helena winning by a score of 27-14.
