2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Citronelle finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Citronelle finished eighth in Class 6A region one with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2015. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Citronelle averaged scoring just 9.8 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.8 points a game. Since 2010, Citronelle has gone a combined 48-74. Their 39.3% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Citronelle has managed to compile a record of 115-148. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A and 247th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Jason Barnett who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-22 over the past four seasons at Citronelle. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Barnett. Coach Barnett's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 19-22 (46.3%). After a couple of rough seasons in 6A , the Wildcats return to 5A with hopes of improving on their record over the past few seasons. The Citronelle Wildcats will play in Class 5A region one during the 2022 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region one this year. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one. The Wildcats open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Millry on Friday, August 19 at A.D. Britton Field. Last year the Millry Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 1A region two. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Brantley by a score of 48-15. Citronelle and Millry have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 5-1-1 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 1968 with Citronelle winning by a score of 87-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
