Hale County completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region three, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Hale County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to T.R. Miller by a score of 20-7. It marked the first time since the 2016 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Hale County has gone a combined 53-73. Their 42.1% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hale County has managed to compile a record of 121-142. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 4A and 234th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Ryan Locke as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Locke was the head football coach at Etowah last season. Coach Locke's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 15-9 (62.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Locke's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship. Once again the Wildcats will be rebuilding under their sixth head football coach in the last nine seasons. The Hale County Wildcats will play in Class 4A region three during the 2022 season. The Wildcats move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-46 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 4A and 43rd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Northside on Friday, August 19 at Howell Field. Last year the Northside Rams finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 4A region five. The Rams lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Good Hope by a score of 35-21. Hale County and Northside have met a total of 49 times on the football field.
