 2022 Preview 


       Jackson-Olin completed the 2021 season with a 9-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region six, the Mustangs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Jackson-Olin reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Mountain Brook by a score of 45-14.

       The 408 points scored by the Mustangs last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Mustangs qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Jackson-Olin has gone a combined 56-68. Their 45.2% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson-Olin has managed to compile a record of 96-158. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 6A and 305th in the AHSAA.




       The Mustangs will be under the direction of new head football coach Jamaal Bess as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Bess was an assistant coach at Fairhope last season.

       The Jackson-Olin Mustangs will play in Class 6A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Mustangs remain in 6A but move from region six over to region five. The Mustangs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-43 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 6A and 25th in the AHSAA.

       The Mustangs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season.

      

       The Mustangs open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Pelham on Friday, August 19 at Ned Bearden Stadium. Last year the Pelham Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 6A region three. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to McGill-Toolen by a score of 20-6.

       Jackson-Olin and Pelham have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 4-4-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2019 with Pelham winning by a score of 38-7.

In 1925 Langdale tied a record by defeating Milltown 125-0. Hamilton had set the record by thrashing Fayette 125-0 in 1915.
