 2022 Preview 


       Oxford completed the 2021 season with a 7-5 record. Last year Oxford captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. Oxford reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Pinson Valley by a score of 20-0.

       The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 2015.

       Oxford was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game.

       Since 2010, Oxford has gone a combined 107-40. Their 72.8% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oxford has gone a combined 195-94. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 6A and 51st in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Sam Adams who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-5 record in his first season at Oxford. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Adams.

       Coach Adams' overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 63-34 (64.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Adams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won three region championships.

       The Oxford Yellow Jackets will play in Class 6A region six during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Yellow Jackets remain in 6A but move from region seven over to region six.

       The Yellow Jackets should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2015 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent McAdory on Friday, August 19 at Lamar Field. Last year the McAdory Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 6A region four. The Yellow Jackets lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Lee Montgomery by a score of 33-25.

       Oxford and McAdory have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-4-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2014 with McAdory winning by a score of 40-38.
