2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pell City finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Pell City finished seventh in Class 6A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Pell City has gone a combined 57-69. Their 45.2% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Pell City has managed to compile a record of 120-144. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 6A and 231st in the AHSAA. The Panthers will be under the direction of new head football coach Steve Mask as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Mask was the head football coach at St. Pauls in Mobile last season. Coach Mask's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-five season stands at 210-98 (68.2%). His 210 wins rank 12th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Mask's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty times and won seven region championships. He has a 42-16 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Mask won four state championships prior to arriving at Pell City, the last coming in 2020 at St. Pauls. The Pell City Panthers will play in Class 6A region six during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 6A but move from region seven over to region six. It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, Pell City will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Moody on Friday, August 19 at Pete Rich-Alumni Stadium. Last year the Moody Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 5A region six. The Blue Devils ended last season on a positive note with a win over Springville by a score of 22-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Pell City and Moody have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 6-2-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2011 with Pell City winning by a score of 44-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
