Southside completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Southside's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mountain Brook by a score of 63-0. Southside was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Panthers want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.0 points a game. Since 2010, Southside has gone a combined 70-60. Their 53.8% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Southside has managed to compile a record of 107-154. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A and 273rd in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Miles Holcomb who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Southside. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holcomb. Coach Holcomb's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 13-19 (40.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Holcomb's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Southside Panthers will play in Class 5A region six during the 2022 season. The Panthers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region six this year. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-46 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 5A and 63rd in the AHSAA. The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season. The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Guntersville on Friday, August 19 at Barney Hood Stadium. Last year the Guntersville Wildcats finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 5A region seven. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 28-20. Southside and Guntersville have met a total of 12 times on the football field.
