2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tuscaloosa County finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Tuscaloosa County finished eighth in Class 7A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2015. The defense allowed a team record 408 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Tuscaloosa County averaged scoring just 11.5 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.8 points a game. The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Tuscaloosa County has gone a combined 48-79. Their 37.8% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Tuscaloosa County has managed to compile a record of 165-121. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 7A and 114th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Adam Winegarden who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Tuscaloosa County. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Winegarden. Coach Winegarden's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 106-39 (73.1%). His 106 wins rank 52nd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Winegarden's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won four region championships. The Tuscaloosa County Wildcats will play in Class 7A region three during the 2022 season. The Wildcats enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Central Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 19 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Central Tuscaloosa Falcons finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 5A region three. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Fairfield by a score of 34-19. Tuscaloosa County and Central Tuscaloosa have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 16-15-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2013 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 46-26. Tuscaloosa County returns 7A All-State punter Cade Lancaster. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
