2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bayside Academy completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region one, the Admirals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Bayside Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 41-13. Since 2010, Bayside Academy has gone a combined 97-57. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 22 seasons, Bayside Academy has managed to compile a record of 137-105. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 4A and 115th in the AHSAA. The Admirals will be under the direction of new head football coach Barrett Trotter as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Trotter comes to Bayside from Briarwood where he coached football the past two years. Prior to working at Briarwood, he coached at Auburn and North Carolina. He spent the 2013-2016 seasons in the NFL with the Rams. The Admirals could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Bayside Academy finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any chance at the postseason. The Admirals open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Elberta on Friday, August 25 at Freedom Field. Last year the Elberta Warriors finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 5A region one. The Warriors ended last season on a positive note with a win over Citronelle by a score of 28-27 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Bayside Academy and Elberta have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Admirals have a 4-0-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2022 with Bayside Academy winning by a score of 14-13. Bayside Academy lost 4A All-State kicker Joey Jones to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. The Admirals return 4A All-State Senior defensive lineman Graham Uter. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
