2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dothan High completed the 2022 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region two, the Wolves earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Dothan High reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Auburn by a score of 48-20. No team at Dothan High ever won more games in a season than the eight victories last year. The defense allowed a team record 324 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Wolves qualified for the playoffs. Dothan High is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only four seasons. They have managed a record of 22-20 over the past four years. The Wolves are led by head coach Jed Kennedy who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-4 record in his first season at Dothan High. The Wolves saw improvement from a 4-6 record the season before coach Kennedy arrived. Under his direction the Wolves have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Kennedy. The win total includes 8 wins in Alabama and 115 victories from outside the state. Coach Kennedy got the Wolves their first ever playoff victory in 2022 and the fans will be expecting that to be just the beginning for the upstart program. Sophomore QB Sam Broadway will be counted on to lead the charges on offense in 2023. RB TJ Vickers and TY Alexander will be counted on also this fall. The Wolves should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. The Wolves open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Carroll on Thursday, August 24 at Rip Hewes Stadium. Last year the Carroll Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 5A region two. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Gulf Shores by a score of 42-10. Dothan High and Carroll have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Wolves have a 3-0-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Dothan High winning by a score of 45-19. Dothan High lost 7A All-State running back Raymon Blackmon to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate offensive lineman Jamarius Stanyard. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
