2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hillcrest completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Hillcrest just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region one with a 3-4 region record. Hillcrest took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2016. Since 2010, Hillcrest has gone a combined 84-69. Their 54.9% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hillcrest has managed to compile a record of 134-144. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 3A and 215th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars will be under the direction of new head football coach Justin Nared as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Nared was an assistant coach at Spanish Fort last season before taking over at Hillcrest this spring. The Jaguars could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Hillcrest came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. QB Jermonte Stallworth will be returning after completing 65 of 100 passes for 1,137 yards last season along with 12 touchdowns. The defense will be led by Camden Dyer this season after collecting 93 total tackles last season. The Jaguars open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent T.R. Miller on Friday, August 25 at Municipal Stadium. Last year the T.R. Miller Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 4A region one. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Handley by a score of 27-14. Hillcrest and T.R. Miller have met a total of 25 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 2-23-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with T.R. Miller winning by a score of 22-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
