2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hokes Bluff completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Hokes Bluff just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region six with a 3-4 region record. Hokes Bluff was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.0 points a game. Since 2010, Hokes Bluff has gone a combined 67-74. Their 47.5% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hokes Bluff has managed to compile a record of 163-117. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A and 108th in the AHSAA. The Eagles are led by head coach Michael Robertson who is entering his twenty-eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 174-127 over the past twenty-seven seasons at Hokes Bluff. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times. They have won one region crown with Coach Robertson. Coach Robertson led to a state championship in 2001. His 174 wins rank 20th among active coaches in the AHSAA. The Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Hokes Bluff has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Eagles open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Southside Gadsden on Thursday, August 31 at Barney Hood Stadium. Last year the Southside Gadsden Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 5A region six. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 61-25. Hokes Bluff and Southside Gadsden have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 40-32-3 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2022 with Southside Gadsden winning by a score of 42-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
