2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sardis completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Sardis finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Sardis averaged scoring just 11.0 points a game. Since 2010, Sardis has gone a combined 59-76. Their 43.7% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sardis has managed to compile a record of 103-158. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 5A and 283rd in the AHSAA. The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach B.J. Brooks as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Brooks spent the past three years as an assistant coach at Hoover. The Sardis job is his first as a head football coach. The Lions have more athletes out for football this fall as Coach Brooks tries to set a new standard at Sardis. The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. The Lions open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, August 25 at Louisa St Clair Athletic Field. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 4A region eight. Sardis and D.A.R. have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 3-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2022 with Sardis winning by a score of 16-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
