D.A.R. finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year D.A.R. finished eighth in Class 4A region eight with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Patriots lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as D.A.R. averaged scoring just 10.2 points a game. The Patriots also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.8 points a game. The Patriots would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, D.A.R. has gone a combined 51-84. Their 37.8% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 17 seasons, D.A.R. has managed to compile a record of 69-106. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 4A and 296th in the AHSAA. The Patriots will be under the direction of new head football coach Kyle Davis as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Davis comes to D.A.R. from Citronelle where he served as offensive coordinator. His most recent head coaching experience was at West End High School from 2014 to 2020. Over the course of his career, Coach Davis' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . This season, the Patriots will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Patriots open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Sardis on Friday, August 25 at Louisa St Clair Athletic Field. Last year the Sardis Lions finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 5A region seven. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Hokes Bluff by a score of 16-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. D.A.R. and Sardis have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 1-3-0 record against the Lions.
