2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
North Jackson finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year North Jackson finished seventh in Class 4A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, North Jackson has gone a combined 81-65. Their 55.5% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, North Jackson has finished a combined 194-96. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 4A and 53rd in the AHSAA. The Chiefs are led by head coach Joe Hollis Jr. who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-14 over the past two seasons at North Jackson. Under his direction the Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hollis Jr.. The Chiefs have about forty players out for fall practice. They return seven players on the offensive side and another eight to the defense. That experience should equate to a few more wins in 2023. Coach Hollis believes the key to success is the ability to run the football and stop the run on defense. His focus during the off season has been to improve in those areas. The Chiefs will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. After just 2 wins last year, North Jackson will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Chiefs open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Scottsboro on Friday, September 1 at Pat Trammell Stadium. Last year the Scottsboro Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class 5A region seven. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 35-10. North Jackson and Scottsboro have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Chiefs have a 21-16-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Scottsboro winning by a score of 27-18. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
