Winston County completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region five, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Winston County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Fyffe by a score of 35-6. Since 2010, Winston County has gone a combined 55-83. Their 39.9% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Winston County has managed to compile a record of 117-153. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 2A and 258th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets will be under the direction of new head football coach Caleb Simmons as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Simmons comes to Winston County from Fayette County where he was the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach and Strength Coach. He was at Cordova as the offensive coordinator before his years at Fayette. The Yellow Jackets have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season. The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Addison on Friday, August 25 at A.G. Hicks Stadium. Last year the Addison Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 1A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 41-14. Winston County and Addison have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 36-50-1 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Winston County winning by a score of 29-8. Winston County lost 2A All-State linebacker Ethan Morgan to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. The Yellow Jackets return 2A All-State Junior defensive back Chris Clemons.
