2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zion Chapel finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Zion Chapel finished seventh in Class 2A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rebels last playoff victory came during the 1979 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Zion Chapel averaged scoring just 12.9 points a game. The Rebels would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Zion Chapel has gone a combined 38-94. Their 28.8% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Zion Chapel has not won much with a record of 71-182. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 2A and 362nd in the AHSAA. The Rebels are led by head coach Cody Keene Jr. who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Zion Chapel. The Rebels saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Keene Jr. arrived. The Rebels have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Keene Jr.. The Rebels will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. The Rebels open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Pike Liberal Arts on Friday, August 25 at Greene Memorial Stadium. Last year the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in place in Class Ind region five. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Calhoun by a score of 50-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Zion Chapel and Pike Liberal Arts have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 2-0-0 record against the Patriots.
