 2023 Preview 


       Georgiana completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region two, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Georgiana's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Leroy by a score of 47-12.

       The Panthers improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2018. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Panthers qualified for the playoffs. The Panthers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Bess saw improvement as they won seven games following a 0-10 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Georgiana has gone a combined 75-67. Their 52.8% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Georgiana has managed to compile a record of 132-139. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A and 202nd in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Berry Bess who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-14 over the past two seasons at Georgiana. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bess.

       What a turnaround for the Panthers in 2022 going from 0-10 the previous year to 7-4 and a playoff spot last season.

       The Panthers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season.

       The Panthers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent W.S. Neal on Friday, August 25 at Buddy Taylor Field. Last year the W.S. Neal Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 3A region one. The Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to St. James by a score of 42-21.

       Georgiana and W.S. Neal have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 6-10-3 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Georgiana winning by a score of 18-14.

      

       The Panthers return 1A All-State Junior receiver Kaveon Miles. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
