2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hamilton finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Hamilton finished seventh in Class 4A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Hamilton averaged scoring just 13.7 points a game. The Aggies also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.6 points a game. Since 2010, Hamilton has gone a combined 84-62. Their 57.5% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hamilton has managed to compile a record of 175-112. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A and 86th in the AHSAA. The Aggies will be under the direction of new head football coach Evan Shipp as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Shipp is a native of North Alabama and a graduate of Arab High School. He played football for the University of West Alabama and graduated in 2009 with his bachelors degree in History. The Aggies have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-44 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 4A and 27th in the AHSAA. This season, the Aggies will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. The Aggies open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Red Bay on Friday, August 25 at Joe Sargent Stadium. Last year the Red Bay Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 2A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 55-8. Hamilton and Red Bay have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 17-3-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Red Bay winning by a score of 22-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
