2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Huffman finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Huffman finished sixth in Class 6A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Huffman averaged scoring just 10.7 points a game. The Vikings also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.1 points a game. The Vikings would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Huffman has gone a combined 37-94. Their 28.2% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Huffman has managed to compile a record of 111-151. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 6A and 270th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2007. The Vikings will be under the direction of new head football coach Rodney Bivens Jr. as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Bivens served as the head football coach at Central Tuscaloosa the past three seasons. The Vikings will be rebuilding with only six seniors returning to the team as the season opens. The Vikings will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just a single win last year, Huffman will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Vikings open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Minor on Thursday, August 24 at Vikings Stadium. Last year the Minor Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 6A region five. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Stanhope Elmore by a score of 21-7. Huffman and Minor have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 2-7-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Minor winning by a score of 49-25. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
