2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moody completed the 2022 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region six, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Moody reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Arab by a score of 42-20. No team at Moody ever won more games in a season than the ten victories last year. The 489 points scored by the Blue Devils last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Blue Devils qualified for the playoffs. The high-scoring Moody offense ranked 28th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.8 points a game. Since 2010, Moody has gone a combined 54-79. Their 40.6% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Moody has managed to compile a record of 101-159. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A and 294th in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Jake Ganus who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-2 record in his first season at Moody. The Blue Devils saw improvement from a 6-4 record the season before coach Ganus arrived. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ganus. The Blues Devils are for real. The 411 Boys are ready for some football in 2023. It should be another great season in Moody if they can get past Leeds. Charlie Johnston, a transfer from Mountain Brook, will open the season at quarterback and Coach Ganus likes what he has seen from him since arriving in Moody. The Blue Devils are considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Blaine Burke will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,605 yards and 20 TDs in 2022. Zane Smith will lead the defense this season after collecting 114 total tackles last season. AMon Lane will be back at the cornerback position and is considered one of the top prospects in Alabama. The Blue Devils open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Pell City on Friday, August 25 at Bill Morris Stadium. Last year the Pell City Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 6A region six. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Springville by a score of 70-40 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Moody and Pell City have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 2-6-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2022 with Moody winning by a score of 56-21. Moody lost 5A All-State quarterback Cole McCarty to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates receiver Davion Dozier and offensive lineman Mason Myers. The Blue Devils return 5A All-State Senior defensive back Amon Lane. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
