Berry completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Berry finished sixth in Class 1A region five with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Berry has gone a combined 83-74. Their 52.9% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Berry has managed to compile a record of 144-130. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A and 166th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Hunter Mims leaves Berry after three seasons with a record of 8-22. 2024 Head Coach: Danny Raines returns to Berry after serving as the head coach for fourteen seasons between 2003-2016. His teams at Berry finished a combined 102-59 and 9-12 in the playoffs. Most recently he was the head football coach at Morgan Academy where his teams went 21-23 in four seasons. His 138 wins rank 43rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Raines' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won two region championships. Season Outlook: The Berry Wildcats will play in Class 1A region five during the 2024 season. It has been three years since the Wildcats of Berry have reached the playoffs. They did improve by a couple more wins last year but will need a couple more victories to grab one of the four playoff spots in Region 5 this season. The Wildcats return five starters from last season on offense and five to the defense this fall. The Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Berry has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020 but hope to return to the post season this year. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Ace Norris -QB, Lake Norris -Tailback, Max Westbrook -WR, Mason Parr -Center, Luke Ward -LT DEFENSE: Noah Morrison -DE, Luke Ward -LB, Lake Norris -LB, Max Westbrook -DB, Ace Norris -DB Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Pickens Academy on Friday, August 30 at Fred Webster Stadium. Last year the Pickens Academy Pirates finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class AA region two. The Pirates ended last season on a positive note with a win over Morgan Academy by a score of 36-32 after failing to gain a playoff spot. This will be the second meeting between Berry Fayette and Pickens Academy on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-0-0 record against the Pirates.
