2024 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Charles Henderson completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 5A region two, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Charles Henderson reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Gulf Shores by a score of 41-0. The Trojans hope to get back closer to the 12-2 record in 2022. Since 2010, Charles Henderson has gone a combined 90-70. Their 56.3% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Charles Henderson has managed to compile a record of 169-111. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 5A and 92nd in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Charles Henderson lost 5A All-State offensive lineman Benton Dunn to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates kicker Nik Peerson and athlete Jywon Boyd. Head Coach: The Trojans are led by head coach Quinn Hambrite who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-14 over the past three seasons at Charles Henderson. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Hambrite. Over the course of his career, Coach Hambrite's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Charles Henderson Trojans will play in Class 5A region two during the 2024 season. The Trojans have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 85-38 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 5A and 3rd in the AHSAA. Charles Henderson will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Trojans lost staring quarterback Parker Adams to graduation and the 2,116 yards and 22 touchdowns he threw for last season. Finding a replacement will be a task for Coach Hambrite in 2024. The Trojans will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. With the AHSAA realignment region 2 is crowded with six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. This will make it difficult for a couple of the teams to grab one of the four spots come November. The Trojans will do a little rebuilding in 2024 as they have five starters from last year returning on offense and just four to the defense. Coach Hambrite told us. ''We are going to be a young and scrappy team. We aren't as big, fast, and strong as we were over the past two years, but we are still a talented team. With only 10 seniors, we will have to figure out who will take the leadership roles and which young guys will step up to the challenge of varsity football. I'm excited to see how we will respond this season, especially after losing such a big and talented class last year.'' The Trojans have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Antonio Frazier will be returning for his senior season after rushing for 563 yards and 6 TDs last season. TE Noah Greene will also be back for his senior season after catching 24 passes for 429 yards and 6 TDs in 2023. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Houston Academy by a score of 10-0. Charles Henderson and Pike County have met a total of 41 times on the football field.
