 2024 Preview 


       Dallas County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Dallas County finished eighth in Class 4A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Hornets lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The defense allowed a team record 473 points last season. The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Dallas County averaged scoring just 12.3 points a game. The Hornets also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 47.3 points a game.

       The Hornets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Dallas County football program has struggled with a record of 37-106.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Dallas County has not won much with a record of 87-172. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 3A and 335th in the AHSAA.

2024 Head Coach:
    Darryl Watts  was a four-year letter winner for coach Christopher Raymond at Southside Selma. He was a first team All-Area and All-Region selection as a senior. He attended Troy before embarking on his coaching career.

Season Outlook:

       The Dallas County Hornets will play in Class 3A region three during the 2024 season. The Hornets may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region three this year.

      

       The Hornets enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 16 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       The Hornets move from 4A down and will hopefully be more competitive in their new region. They have only won one game the past two years so the move may be beneficial to the football program. They have not made the playoffs since the 2019 season.

    This season, the Hornets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Dallas County will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Hornets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Keith on Friday, August 30 at J.V. Caldwell Stadium. Last year the Keith Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region three. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Georgiana by a score of 61-0.

       Dallas County and Keith have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 31-5-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2023 with Keith winning by a score of 48-20.
