 2024 Preview 


       Good Hope finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Good Hope just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region six with a 2-4 region record.

       The Raiders lost as many games as in any season since 2016.

       Since 2010, Good Hope has gone a combined 69-82. Their 45.7% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Good Hope has managed to compile a record of 142-130. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A and 166th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Raiders are led by head coach Alan Scott who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 53-47 over the past nine seasons at Good Hope. Under his direction the Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Scott. Over the course of his career, Coach Scott's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times .

Season Outlook:

       The Good Hope Raiders will play in Class 4A region five during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Raiders remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five.

      

       After winning 38 games in four years the Raiders have fallen off a bit the past two seasons going 5-6 and 3-7 last year. Can they get back to that old form from a few years ago? It just may be possible.

       Region 5 is not one of the strongest from past performance. Only Dora and Haleyville won more than six games last year so this could shape up to be a wide open race for one of the four playoff spots in Region 5.

       Coach Scott told us ''We are moving into a new region this year. There are several teams in the region with great traditions of winning games and their coaches are second to none. Hopefully we can bounce back from a disappointing 2023 and compete each week.''

    The Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Good Hope came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Raiders open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent West Point on Friday, August 30 at Warrior Field. Last year the West Point Warriors finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 5A region eight. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 50-0.

       Good Hope and West Point have met a total of 45 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 19-25-1 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2023 with West Point winning by a score of 49-32.
