2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
New Hope completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year New Hope finished sixth in Class 4A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, New Hope has gone a combined 60-83. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, New Hope has managed to compile a record of 101-153. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 4A and 284th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Tyler Johnson spent the past two seasons at New Hope and led the Indians to back-to-back 4-6 seasons. 2024 Head Coach: Michael Harper was the Whitesburg Christian head coach for the 2020 season and most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Hazel Green in 2023. Season Outlook: The New Hope Indians will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2024 season. The New Hope Indians have not reached the playoffs since the 2015 football season. The past three years they have finished 4-6 each season. Can incoming head coach Michael Harper get the Indians to that next step and win a couple more games to get that coveted playoff spot in Region 8? Quarterback Terry Lucas returns and the Indians do have some experience at running back and receiver so the skilled players on offense will give them a lift. With Plainview and Madison Academy joining them in the region a playoff spot may be more difficult to come by the next two years. The Indians have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region eight this season. New Hope has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2015 but hope to return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Lucas Terry will be returning for his sophomore season after completing 132-of-195 passes for 1,551 yards and 13 TDs last season. RB Layton Pohl will be back too for his junior season after rushing for 660 yards and 9 TDs last season. WR Dawson Cambron will be back for his senior season after catching 74 passes for 928 yards and 7 TDs in 2023. Returning Starters: DT Dominick Scott, RB Christian Hargrove, QB/WR Dawson Cambron, WR/FS Gavin Rundlett Season Opener: The Indians open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Ohatchee on Friday, August 23 at Ragan Clark Stadium. Last year the Ohatchee Indians finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region six. This will be the second meeting between New Hope and Ohatchee on the football field. The Indians have a 0-1-0 record against the Indians. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
