2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pelham completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Pelham just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region three with a 2-4 region record. Since 2010, Pelham has gone a combined 68-80. Their 45.9% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Pelham has managed to compile a record of 128-141. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 6A and 206th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Pelham lost 6A All-State defensive back Will Felton to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Head Coach: The Panthers are led by head coach Mike Vickery who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-11 over the past two seasons at Pelham. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Vickery. Over the course of his career, Coach Vickery's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . Season Outlook: The Pelham Panthers will play in Class 6A region three during the 2024 season. The Panthers are joined this year in Region 3 by Spain Park and Chelsea who both dropped down from 7A with the AHSAA realignment last December. With Helena and Benjamin Russell already in the region it will get a little crowded come November with only four playoff spots available. Once the dust settles Pelham should be in good shape to get back to the post season after falling just short in 2023. The Panthers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region three this season. Pelham came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Returning Starters: RB Kalib Porter, ATH Logan Strunk, DL Uriah Barginere Season Opener: The Panthers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Pell City on Friday, August 23 at Ned Bearden Stadium. Last year the Pell City Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 6A region six. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Springville by a score of 31-28. Pelham and Pell City have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 4-5-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1999 with Pelham winning by a score of 17-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
