2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
White Plains finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year White Plains finished sixth in Class 4A region four with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1994 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. White Plains was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.2 points a game. The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the White Plains football program has struggled with a record of 36-104. Over the past 25 seasons, White Plains has not won much with a record of 78-172. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 4A and 338th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Blake Jennings who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at White Plains. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jennings. Season Outlook: The White Plains Wildcats will play in Class 4A region six during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 4A but move from region four over to region six. The White Plains Wildcats have not won more games than they lost since 2003 when they finished 6-4. They have also not made the playoffs since 1994 and that was the only season they have ever played a playoff game in school history. Can second year head coach Blake Jennings get the Wildcat football program in a place where they are competitive in 4A Region 6? Jennings told us about this year's team. ''Many freshman played last season and contributed valuable minutes to the 2023 season. Most notably was starting tailback PJ Holloway, starting QB Crew Martin, OT Hudson Ingalsbe, and defensive back Bryson Cheatwood.'' ''White Plains only had 2 seniors last year. Under Jennings first year, the Wildcats were an overtime away from punching their spot into the playoffs for the first time since 1994. The players expect to make the playoffs this year as we return 9 starters on offense and defense along with other role players who played a lot last season. PJ Holloway (10th) looks to have a break out season at tailback. '' ''Rodney Peery (11th) looks ready to lead the passing game from the slot position and out of the backfield. Defensively the secondary returns all starters and looks to be led by Bryson Cheatwood (10th), Rodney Peery (11th), and Bryson Cheatwood (10th). Up front on both sides of the ball, the Wildcats will be led by two seniors, Ty Roberts and Dalton Luker. '' The Wildcats will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, White Plains will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Returning Starters: P.J. Holloway, RB, So.; Bryson Cheatwood, DB/K, So.; Dalton Luker, OL, Sr.; Ty Roberts, OL, Sr.; Ashton Wallace, LB, Sr.; Ethan Turner, WR, Sr.; Patrick Sams, LB, Sr.; Rodney Peery, DB, Jr.; Hayden Barksdale, DB/KR, Jr.; Logan Laube, DL, Jr. Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Talladega on Thursday, August 22 at Mary Dumas Stadium. Last year the Talladega Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Saks by a score of 29-27. White Plains and Talladega have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 3-0-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with White Plains winning by a score of 43-29. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
