2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Baldwin County finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Baldwin County finished eighth in Class 6A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Baldwin County has gone a combined 47-94. Their 33.3% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Baldwin County has managed to compile a record of 107-152. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A and 276th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Scott Rials leaves Baldwin County after four seasons in Bay Minette with a record of 14-27. His tigers qualified for the playoffs once in 2021 and finished with an 8-4 record. His one playoff victory with the Tigers is the only one for them since 2003. In 27 seasons with five different schools his overall record is 185-111 with 21 playoff victories. His 2011 squad at Elba won a 2A state championship with a perfect 15-0 record. This will be the seventh different head football coach in Bay Minette over the past 20 seasons. 2024 Head Coach: Andrew Davis gets his first head coaching job at Baldwin County. Davis played football at and graduated from Daphne High School. He attended Delta State and graduated from Auburn in 2010. Coach Davis worked at McGill-Toolen and Gulf Shores before serving four seasons at Daphne. He spent 2017-2019 on the staff at Baldwin County, three seasons at Elberta and last year was the quarterbacks coach at Spanish Fort. Season Outlook: The Baldwin County Tigers will play in Class 6A region one during the 2024 season. The Tigers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 78-39 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 6A and 5th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have the most difficult schedule in 6A this season. Playing in region one is tough enough but with non-region games against 7A Foley and 7A Mary Montgomery the Tigers will be tested early and often. Coach Davis will have a tough task ahead of him to get Baldwin County competitive in 2024. Baldwin County has only reached the playoffs once in the past sixteen seasons that being in 2021 under former coach Scott Rials. The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Baldwin County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Players to Watch in 2024: DE Elisha Jones collected 118 tackles (78 solo) including 8 sacks and will be back for his senior season. OLB Cameron Benitez collected 81 tackles (50 solo) including 2 sacks in 2023. Returning Starters: CB/ATH Koby Johnson, OL Martez Taylor, OLB Malachi Stevens, DE EJ Jones, CB/SS Koby Johnson, ATH Ti Mims Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Foley on Friday, August 23 at Simmons Field. Last year the Foley Lions finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 7A region one. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Jackson-Olin by a score of 38-26 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Baldwin County and Foley have met a total of 95 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 39-53-3 record against the Lions. They last met in 2023 with Foley winning by a score of 37-24. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
