 2024 Preview

Bibb County completed the 2023 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Bibb County captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Bibb County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Jacksonville by a score of 28-21.

The defense was very stingy last season as Bibb County ranked 33rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.4 points a game.

Since 2010, Bibb County has gone a combined 125-43. Their 74.4% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Bibb County has managed to compile a record of 188-100. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A and 65th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Choctaws are led by head coach Matt Geohagan who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 82-27 over the past nine seasons at Bibb County. Under his direction the Choctaws have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won five region crowns with Coach Geohagan.

Season Outlook:

The Bibb County Choctaws will play in Class 4A region four during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Choctaws remain in 4A but move from region three over to region four.

Bibb County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Choctaws enter the 2024 season having won 7 straight region games.

With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Not all of those teams will make the post season this year. The Choctaws have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past eleven seasons and sixteen of the last seventeen years.

The Choctaws return six players on offense including most of the skilled players from a 10-2 season in 2023. The defense returns seven players who started games last year and will be a strong point for Bibb County. They open the season against 6A Chilton County and go on the road the next week to Gordo. Their other non-region opponent is 6A Northridge so the Choctaws will play a difficult schedule this season.

Coach Matt Geohagan told us ''Bibb County is excited to enter into the new 4A region 4. There are several returning starters at skill positions on both sides of the ball. The leadership on this team has been outstanding year in and year out and many new players are adjusting to this role well. Bibb County always plays a competitive schedule and will always put a good product on the field on Friday nights.''

The Choctaws are considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Choctaws have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2012 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Returning Starters:

Season Opener:
The Choctaws open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Chilton County on Friday, August 23 at Choctaw Stadium. Last year the Chilton County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 6A region three. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Marbury by a score of 53-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Bibb County and Chilton County have met a total of 75 times on the football field. The Choctaws have a 39-33-3 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with Bibb County winning by a score of 33-21.
