2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Columbia finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Columbia finished sixth in Class 6A region seven with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Columbia averaged scoring just 5.0 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.3 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-19 record. Since 2010, the Columbia football program has struggled with a record of 16-123. Over the past 18 seasons, Columbia has not won much with a record of 31-148. Their 17.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 6A and 387th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2010. Head Coach: The Eagles are led by head coach Sean Watson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Columbia. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Watson. Coach Watson's overall record as a head football coach in Alabama for one stands at 0-10 (%). Season Outlook: The Columbia Eagles will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2024 season. The Eagles enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 81 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Eagles just need to win a football game. The problem is they seem to be getting further away from a winning program than closer. It's been a few years since they were even in a game with a chance to win it late. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Columbia will be to simply win some games. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Tristian Taylor will be returning after completing 69-of-144 passes for 577 yards last season along with 3 touchdowns. Returning Starters: WR/CB Josiah Toeaina, CB Josiah Toeaina, MLB Daunte Horne, WR/CB Hakim Dunnigan, OT Chris Black Season Opener: The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Priceville on Thursday, August 22 at Milton Frank Stadium. Last year the Priceville Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region eight. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Brooks by a score of 70-42. Columbia and Priceville have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2009 with Columbia winning by a score of 44-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
