 2024 Preview

Danville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Danville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 3A region seven with a 2-4 region record.

The Hawks last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Danville has gone a combined 43-99. Their 30.3% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Danville has not won much with a record of 78-176. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 4A and 353rd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Hawks are led by head coach Andro Williams who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-20 over the past three seasons at Danville. Under his direction the Hawks have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams. His 135 wins rank 45th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Williams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won six region championships.

Season Outlook:

The Danville Hawks will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2024 season. The Hawks move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The move up to 4A will not do much to help the Hawks win more games in 2024 because the competition will just be a little rougher. Region 7 is loaded with playoff quality teams and that is not a plus for them either.

Coach Williams told us a little about this year's team at Danville. ''We have 10 guys returning from last year on offense. Had no seniors on last years team. Also have nine starters from last year back on the defense.''

''We expect Ben Ellenburg, Jace Glenn, Cristian Roderiquez, and newcomer Donald Walker to be the skill guy to help produce points offensively. Blocking for these guys will be Ryder Reeves, Caden Flowers, Cole Flowers, Landon Hanserd, Mitchell Owens, and TE John Salvia. Mentally is where we feel we're better than last year overall.''

Look for the Hawks to be improved in 2024 with a much more experienced team of players.

The Hawks will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season.

Season Opener:
The Hawks open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Tharptown on Friday, August 23 at Smith-Owens Stadium. Last year the Tharptown Wildcats finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region eight. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Whitesburg Christian by a score of 44-0.

This will be the second meeting between Danville and Tharptown on the football field. The Hawks have a 1-0-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in with
